Los Trovadores de Toxtlán - Son Jarocho y Ritmos del Mundo

Los Trovadores de Toxtlán - Son Jarocho & Ritmos del Mundo

The Son Jarocho from the south of Veracruz is one of the most dynamic styles in the genre of music and dance known as the Mexican Son.

This folklore music was born during the Spanish colonial period and is a mix of indigenous (mainly Huasteco), Spanish and African music & dance that, although it at first reflected the character of the people in the spanish colonial period, has changed during the years and now represents the spirit of the people distinguishing itself by its characteristic rhythm, dance, singing style and improvisation of lyrics and music.

The instruments associated with the Son Jarocho are the jarana (in different sizes), the requinto jarocho, the harp and some percussion instruments like the tambourine, the "cajon" and the "quijada de burro".

Toxtlán offers, next to an excellent performance of the jarocho rhythms, a tremendous repertoire of traditional Mexican music (rancheras, boleros, corridos, sones) and Latin american music.

They are on tour in Europe between April 18 and July 19, 2008, and can be booked by contacting us using the above information.
